The Importance of Healing

Self Care

healing

Whether it was a person who hurt you or an event that took place in your life, you need to learn to let it go. The past will control your future if you continue to dwell on it and that is why you should know the importance of healing. No one likes the feeling of pain. No one likes the heaviness it puts in their chests either. But it’s important to heal to prepare yourself for the next chapter of your life.

Why do you need to heal?

Not allowing yourself to completely heal from something will definitely affect your mental health! You will always have those thoughts lingering in the back of your mind which will only cause an excess amount of stress. Holding on to something that has hurt you will only damage you.

Many people like to just suppress the pain and act like it isn’t there. Avoiding your pain will only increase it. Doing this will only cause it to build up, making it much heavier than what it already is. Instead, take the time out to acknowledge your pain and to feel your sadness. This will help you make more concrete efforts to heal properly.

The healing process has no timeline

Healing is definitely a process that takes time. It doesn’t happen overnight. You will fully heal when you are ready and only you will know this. No one gets to tell you when to heal, how to heal, or when you will be done healing.

Time and patience are key to recovery.

Some people allow suffering to define and shape them. If I must be completely honest, I used to be one of those people. I allowed emotional trauma to once shape me into a person I didn’t want to be. I had the mentality to treat people exactly how they wrongfully treated me. But the wrong people were getting that type of treatment from me. Do you see where I am going? Eventually, I was just negative all around and didn’t see any good in anyone or anything.

I’m telling you this because I don’t ever want you to become something you are not from not properly healing. Learn from your pain and allow it to turn you in a new direction in life.

Different ways you can heal:

  • give yourself permission to grieve
  • practice self-compassion
  • take care of yourself, physically and mentally. Self-care is always good.
  • seek professional help.
  • read self-help books and listen to relevant podcasts.

Have you tried starting a therapy journal?

If you know me personally, then you know I am a huge writer! I think I have a journal for almost everything. A therapy journal can simply be just for emotional healing to help you process and understand your feelings. I have one that I always keep at home and it is designed specifically for self-therapy. It is a handmade journal created by the brand, Soothi, that I love. Not only do they hand-make journals, but they also hand-make notebooks, custom stationery, organizers, and more.

Be sure to grab some journal prompts for your therapy journal. A journal prompt is a simple statement designed to inspire you or offer you an idea of what to write about. You can search online for different journal prompts relevant to your situation and Pinterest is always my go-to.

Bottom line

Whatever it may be, let it go. It won’t happen overnight but I can assure you that things will get better. Once you are done healing, you will know it because you will feel the weight lifted from your shoulders. You will no longer have negative reactions to your thoughts from the past.

You will get there. Take this time to heal and rediscover yourself the proper way.
